Why is the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons muzzling doctors?

Why is the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons muzzling doctors?

Two minutes with the Justice Centre

Ontario doctors are the medical experts who have the most immediate and personal front-line knowledge of the tremendous harms caused by government lockdown measures.

On 30th April this year, the College warned: “Physicians… have a professional responsibility to not communicate anti-vaccine, anti-masking, anti-distancing and anti-lockdown statements and/or promoting unsupported, unproven treatments for COVID-19. Physicians must not make comments or provide advice that encourages the public to act contrary to public health orders and recommendations.” It added, “The information shared must not be misleading or deceptive and must be supported by available evidence and science.”

Outrageous? Of course.

Ideologically driven? Certainly. The possibility that the non-pharmaceutical interventions – lockdowns, masks and social distancing – might have been a ghastly mistake, makes fools of too many people.

But science-based? Not at all. Following the science, as establishment tub-thumpers daily prescribe, requires testing, observation and debate. It requires falsifiability. As the serpentine evolutions of Canada’s Covid response has shown over the past 18 months, it’s not as though the facts were ever well understood or wholly known.

If Ontario’s doctors have evidence of anything, it is of the terrible human cost of lockdowns mandated by the Ontario government. The loneliness, the drug dependency, the marital tensions and depressed children… the worsening health caused by delayed diagnosis and the deaths of patients from a surgery cancelled or postponed.

Who better indeed to speak about the condition of the people, than those who care for them on a daily basis? We cannot say it better than a young Ontario emergency physician, Dr. Patrick Phillip, speaking June 16 on Parliament Hill about what he called ‘the massive harms from these lockdowns’:
“I have never seen so many suicidal children, I’ve never seen so many people coming into emergency for the first time, with metastatic cancer.”

He speaks freely – for now – of the horrific lockdown side effects so many Ontario doctors have observed. But the College expects Ontario’s doctors to just surrender their Charter freedom to speak freely, and shut up.

The rot starts at the top.
