Bill C-34, the so-called Safe Social Media Act, would force Canadians to verify their age and identity to access social media under the guise of protecting children, pressure AI companies to monitor and police private conversations, and hand sweeping powers over online speech, internet access, and digital expression to a Cabinet-appointed Digital Safety Commission.
