New Zoom workshop on “Contemporary Threats to Freedom of Expression in Canada”

Date: December 6, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. ET

Censorship in the 21st century is shaping up to be technical and deceptively benevolent. After a couple of decades of trial and error, Western governments and corporations have finally found ways to control speech in virtual spaces. This will address such issues, including:

  • Did you know that the federal Bill C-11 gives the CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission) virtually unlimited power to regulate audiovisual content on the Internet?
  • Did you know that the CRTC is empowered, under existing legislation, to issue blocking orders against Internet service providers?
  • Did you know that GAFA (Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple) entities are the target of civil actions in Quebec, on the grounds that they have violated the expressive freedoms of users and have discriminated against them illegally?
  • Have you been following Radio-Canada and the “N-word” case?

Join us for this Zoom workshop with Justice Centre Director of French Canada, Maître Samuel Bachand.

  • Date: December 6, 2022
  • Time: 6:00 p.m. ET
  • Platform: Zoom
